dvd & video review

If you are IQ fans, if you have lots of unpaid bills and if your girlfriend/wife doesn´t let you buy a DVD player... here´s your perfect excuse.
At last a progressive rock band has decided to innovate and to use new technologies for releasing a DVD that not only contains musical material but also extra material for your home delight. Of course there are other prog bands (I´ve got Yes in my mind right now) that have already released material in DVD format, but for me it´s more interesting that not so well known bands innovate this way.
Although IQ released a "Subterranea" VHS time ago (you can take a look at the review in its pV section), the most important features of this version is that you´ll watch the show with better sound/vision quality and, of course, the extra features included. This review will be short because you can see my thoughts about the music in the corresponding review.
And, as I stated, you won´t waste your money if you buy this DVD (although you already own the VHS) because there are some interesting extra features; namely: "Encores" (the encores with "Human Nature" and "The Wake"), "The making of Subterranea" with interviews with the production team and interesting anecdotes, an orchestral movement of IQ´s music, photos, and the possibility of enjoying the DVD with 5.1 Surround Sound and/or band´s commentary.
Fortunately, creativity still exists within progressive world and IQ´s career is more than album-tour-album-tour. Now it´s time for a new product that is not a "normal" live show and it´s more like an audiovisual experiment that reminds me to the great "Slipstream" by Jethro Tull, a mix of show and documentary recorded during A tour. Of course the comparisons would be unjust because the money and the creativity are not the same, but sometimes imagination beats money so we can watch "Subterranea´s" concept with a relatively high image quality and enjoy with these great songs.
This is the perfect gift for any IQ´s fan and for any progressive rock fan. IQ and "Subterranea" have already entered in history of music and now you can capture part of that history in this magical format.
